Yaesu Wires-X 2.0 Upgrade

Just an FYI to those that use Wire-X option on repeaters or if you use the personal digial nodes, Yaesu has repleased a software upgrade moving software from v1.57 to v2.0.

What does that mean. Right now there is going to be a big transition period going on with all the Wires-X repeaters in the world. For the most part, this is an upgrade to allow repeater operators to use IPv6 (Internet Protocal v6) addressing that a few ISPs have been going to, like cell phone companies and Starlink. They do not use true IPv4 addesses (ie: 192.168.0.1) and has kept people from being able to set up Wires-X nodes. So while everyone is slowly migrating, you might not find node rooms that you normally visit because that room has not upgraded or the repeater you are on hasn’t upgraded to v2.0

Locally

So right now in Union County, here is what is currently in use.

RepeaterRoomVersion
W7GRAW7GRA-Room2.0
W7BL (Wires-X Node)W7BL-Room2.0
K7UNIK7UNI-Room1.57

I’m not going to upgrade K7UNI for a little bit just so that things stay truely compatible. As more and more rooms shift, I will then upgrade. I’m mostly looking for the NE-Oregon room and the Oregon Emergency M. Room to upgrade. The chart below should show that if you upgrade to v2.0 and you have the room set to old version compatible, that everything should just work, but that isn’t really the case. It is possible that users are using an even older version out there and that is why I’m not seeing those rooms as of yet.

For those of you that don’t use Wires-X, don’t own a HRI-200 box or have your own PDN software hooked up to a HT or other Yaesu radio, then you don’t really need to worry about this upgrade.
