Greetings Everyone
The GRRAA held its first meeting of 2014 on January 22nd, at the La Grande Fire Station. There were 9 members in attendance.
Some of the highlights of the meeting are as follows:
Elections were held and it was unanimously voted to retain all the current officers for 2014.
Some suggestions were given for potential activities for 2014:
1. To help out with parades, athletic events, etc.
2. To have a club booth at Crazy Days
3. To have a club picnic.
If you’d like to be a part of (or head up) any of these activities, please attend the February meeting and tell us your ideas.
We also discussed some of our on-going activities that will happen again in 2014: Field Day (we need more participants), The Union County Fair Booth, the Swap Meet, and Fox Hunts.
One other item mentioned at the meeting was the Oregon State Defense Force (ORSDF) review and test for the General class Ham license which will be in the CHD building in La Grande on Albany St near Cove Ave. The dates are Friday 7 Feb from 1500-1700 (review only) and then on Saturday 8 Feb from 0900-1700 with the actual test at about 1700. The review will be based on the Gordon West book and the FCC questions current until June 2015. If anyone is interested, let me know. Ted Ivester and other Extra class personnel will be there as VE’s.
Finally, Ted N7NSL demo’ed his Tiger Tail Counterpoise which, when attached underneath the antenna of any hand held radio, greatly increases its transmit power.
That’s it for this time. Hope to see you at the next meeting, the fourth Thursday of February (the 27th) at 7:00PM, at the La Grande fire station on Cove Avenue (just off of Island Avenue).
